RAFA Day – August 2017

RAFA Day – August 2017 …………

Every year NASAM Flixton hold the RAFA Day to support and remember the important role that the RAF had, has and will have in the defence of our Nation. This is always an important day in the calendar of events at the museum and this year was no different.  The sun shone on this year’s Royal Air Forces Association day this Sunday.

Joining us at the museum were 2 WW2 Lancaster veterans, Gordan Topham who was a flight engineer and the second pilot in the Lancasters of 617 squadron and Norman Gregory, a bomb aimer who flew with the 101 Squadron. Norman can be seen holding the photograph of him meeting Princess Anne this year at the 100 year anniversary at Brize Norton.

There were a number of gazebos housing the RAFA team, Flixton’s collection of old clothing,  gas masks and other WWI and WW2 memorabilia, The Beccles branch of the Air Cadets (959 squadron) and the Phoenix Birds of Prey Foundation.  On the grass were two collections; the Norfolk Military Vehicle Association and the Norfolk Austin 7 club.

In the hangars were the usual exhibits that could be either looked at, interacted with, shot, started or flown. The afternoon saw dancers take to the floor with 1940s music filling the air.
