NASAM Video Tour No2 – Boulton and Paul …<\/span>

 <\/strong>This is the second short tour in our virtual series and shows two of the Boulton and Paul<\/strong> aircraft exhibits we have in the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum<\/strong><\/span>.  Both of these exhibits are replicas.<\/p>\n

Boulton & Paul Ltd was a general manufacturer from Norwich<\/strong>, England whose origins date back to an ironmonger’s shop founded in 1797.   The company became involved in aircraft manufacture in 1915 constructing aircraft under contract for the Royal Aircraft Factory including the FE.2bs.  Later the company started designing and building their own aircraft with the Boulton and Paul Bobolink being the first to fly; only one of these prototypes was built in 1918.<\/p>\n

The second aircraft which the company designed, built and flew was the Boulton and Paul P.6.  <\/strong>We have a replica of this aircraft in the company colour scheme at the Museum.  This aircraft was designed in 1918. <\/p>\n

After a number of other models over the years, the company designed and built the Boulton and Paul Overstrand<\/strong> in 1933.  We have a replica of the forward fuselage which shows the first powered turret operated by the RAF and it carries a Lewis gun. <\/p>\n

In these financially constrained times, with the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum<\/strong> <\/span>temporarily closed, we are grateful for any help that we can get in keeping the museum running. <\/p>\n

The museum gathers a great deal of its income from donations given by visitors as they tour the various buildings and aircraft.  Despite the temporary closure and the subsequent lack of footfall through the museum, we still have ongoing costs in maintenance, insurance and utilities.  There are two ways in which you can help if you wish.  Either by becoming a museum member or by making a donation.<\/p>\n\r\n
