Sunday 25th July. The weather was kind, far kinder than the previous evening&#8217;s forecast suggested. Unfortunately, the bad weather was to the North and the scheduled Hurricane Flypast was not possible. The Pilot tried to reach us but was defeated by the low cloud over North Norfolk.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The rain almost stayed away completely though and over 600 people visited the museum. We were joined by the Vintage Military Radio Society, the East Anglian Military Vehicles club, The Royal Air Forces Association and the 40s Swing Dancers. There was a display of weaponry and a lot of families took up the opportunity to purchase an aircraft passbook to get a look inside four of the aircraft. The <strong>Royal Air Force Association and Veterans Day <\/strong>at the <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">N<\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">orfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Come along and meet members of the local Royal Air Forces Association and other military Veterans. Enjoy talking to these veterans and take a look at the 1000\u2019s of artefacts, 60 aircraft and cockpits as well as the themed rooms.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Also<\/strong> &#8230;. Subject to weather conditions on the day and their operational commitments, the <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/span>and the&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight<\/strong><\/span>&nbsp;propose to flypast the Museum on the day.&nbsp; As well as the Red Arrows overflight, the BBMF will have one of their&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Spitfire<\/strong><\/span> aircraft do a flyby over the Museum on Sunday.&nbsp; The Red Arrows have said that they will liaise with the BBMF and the timings will be announced on the day when the Red Arrows and the BBMF have their schedules arranged.<\/p>\r\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"COVID_General_Guidance\"><\/span>COVID General Guidance<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The restrictions on the number of visitors having been lifted and we will welcome all arrivals to the Museum.&nbsp; Although no longer a legal requirement, we will continue to ask visitors for <strong>NHS Test and Trace<\/strong> details or to scan the <strong>QR code <\/strong>at the Museum Visitor Reception Point.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In order to be responsible we will try to retain the least number of guidance restrictions for our visitors as follows:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">We will open as many buildings as we can safely staff with our Volunteers.<\/li>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">We will maintain the one-way system in buildings with limited space.<\/li>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">We ask that face coverings are worn when possible in the confined spaces.<\/li>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">We will advise what is open and what is closed when visitors arrive.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A number of facilities will be available on all the open days:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The NAAFI caf\u00e9 is once again serving hot and cold drinks with some snacks inside a dedicated area within the main hangar.&nbsp; This area also shows off some of the artwork that the museum is privileged to have been donated.<\/li>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The shop will be open with a range of items from \u201cpocket money\u201d items for the children and with aviation memorabilia, models, toys, snacks, ice creams and cold drinks.<\/li>\r\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hands-on #0000ff;\">Ash<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Michael F<\/span> have continued constructing the new electricity and broom cupboards. Tuesday we spent preparing parts for the interior of the broom cupboard: the rear wall and a shelf for cleaning materials. Last week we had used temporary fixings to safely secure the front panel to the building girders. So <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Dave <\/span>made two bespoke brackets that we would use for permanent fixings. <br><br>Thursday was really productive. We installed the rear wall and shelf and fixed up the two brackets to permanently secure the front. Next came constructing the floor in front of the old electricity cupboard which allowed us to complete the last job of the week: putting up the front panel of the new electricity cupboard. However, due to some cable runs, we first retired to the workshop for tea and rejigged the panel to allow it to fit. Some sort of milestone was achieved mid-July when all the upper surfaces were completed. In the last couple of weeks, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mark<\/span> (in the red) and <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Ian<\/span> (in the green) have turned their attention to the undersides of the wings, fuselage and undercarriage. This has meant a couple of Tuesdays spent on our knees, or even lying down and pushing upwards with an orbital sander onto a wing; a good workout for anyone seeking to shed a few pounds, I can tell you!<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The undersides are now pretty much complete and next week the team will turn their attention to filling various holes and dents in the fuselage, wings and engine cowls; prior to applying some paint (at last!). In the last couple of weeks, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Colin<\/span> (in the hat) joined the team and as you can see in the pic, he has been covering over some of the larger holes and dents with thin aluminium sheets (<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Meteor Refurb 16 thru 18<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Elsewhere,<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> Gwen<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Cliff<\/span> (in the beige cap) have been steadily working their way towards the front of the Valetta, refreshing the red stripe and re-sealing the window surrounds (<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Valetta Refresh 09<\/strong><\/span>).<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Due to inclement weather on 5<sup>th<\/sup> July, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Barry<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Mark<\/span> granted themselves a \u2018day off&#8217; from the Meteor and painted the fuselage of the Auster (<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Auster 01<\/strong><\/span>) and put a first coat on the wings (<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Auster 02<\/strong><\/span>). The York has already been returned to the museum model store, restored as an example in the markings of No 51 Squadron 1948. The photo below shows the halfway point of the restoration (<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Model York 01<\/strong><\/span>), after having some time spent removing a thick layer of dust and dirt ( previously been displayed hanging from the ceiling as part of another exhibit). Since then It has had a full repaint and decals applied.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Dakota is a new build, I was intending to build a restoration from three existing models but unfortunately could not find enough parts from the three to end up with a complete aeroplane. Luckily I had an unbuilt Dak model which has been in my own &#8220;stash&#8221; for some time so decided that it would be donated for the exhibition. The model has been given its silver coat (<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Model Dakota 01<\/strong><\/span>), the next stage is to add undercarriage and windows. Decals are held for an example of 46 Squadron RAF.
