Update from The Chippy Workshop Part Nine<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Museum has been keeping the workshop on their toes as there is so much to do trying to keep the old building in good repair.<\/p>\n

ROC has had a new front to the building as the old wood had started to deteriorate.  We have now put tin cladding on the outside and this should last for many years.<\/p>\n

The paper store (or as we call it the shed) also had problems with dampness.  We have now put insulating material on the inside ceiling and walls and improved the ventilation.  Hopefully, this will help.<\/p>\n

The Air Sea Rescue building had to be re-roofed as that was leaking.  David Wright said he was wetter working in there than when he was at sea in the rescue boats.  Ashley and I stepped in to re-roof this building.<\/p>\n

I am sure it was entertaining for the visitors to see two ’74’ year olds scrambling around on the roof of the building.  Also, we were grunting and groaning when we got up off our knees and helping each other to get our legs working again.  We have decided to give up the high wire acts and now only work at ground level. <\/p>\n

We got the work done in three days so now David can dispose of his wet weather gear.<\/p>\n

Also in the workshops under construction are new steps for the Valetta aircraft.  These steps will enable visitors to better get in and out of the aircraft.  The metal frames having been constructed by the metal workshop, the chippies are now adding the wooden elements before fitting them.<\/p>\n
