Reginald Stanley Pickles was born 21st September 1898 in Dewsbury West Yorkshire to Elizabeth and Aaron Pickles.
Born into a coal mining family, Reginald excelled at school and upon leaving became an Articled pupil to an accountant in Dewsbury.
He enlisted on 8th March 1917and on the 13th August 1918 Sergeant Reginald Pickles of the RAF and was awarded a Royal Aero Club flying certificate at the Military School Waddington, piloting an RE8 biplane.
He served as a pilot instructor until the end of the war, returning to civilian life as a clerk.
He went on to become Registrar for Births Deaths and Marriages for the County Borough of Dewsbury and was also a local Methodist Preacher.
He retired to Norfolk and died in 1975 aged 77.
