Big Learner Relay Day at the Museum 8th Nov 2018
Driving Instructors across the Country Raise Funds for Children in Need with The Big Learner Relay Day.
As mentioned in a previous blog, Driving Schools are relaying a top box, (the kind that driving instructors have on the roof of their cars), from one driving lesson to another around the United Kingdom. The relay started in Jersey on Monday 29th October, and this was followed by a day in Northern Ireland on Wednesday 31st October. The top box has since then been on a convoy around the rest of the UK. The relay is in support of the charity Children in Need.
Yesterday, on Thursday the 8th November, the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum was pleased to host the change over of the top box between two of those driving lessons at the museum. The Museum also handed over the donations made by the Museum Volunteers and the public to the organisers of the rally.
Day 7 of the Rally and the two driving schools involved in the changeover at the Museum were the Pro-Driver Training School from Beccles who arrived with the top box to a flurry of horns and flashing lights just after 1430 as arranged. They then handed the top box to the Lion Driving School from Litcham, King’s Lynn who departed on the dot at 1500 with the top box. The hand over went smoothly, albeit noisily, with Pudsey present as can be seen in the photos of the day.
The final location for the relay is the Silverstone Race Track on Children in Need Day, Friday 16th November 2018, where it will be taken on a lap or two around Circuit. In the 17 days on the road, the top box will have covered 3000+ miles, with over 190 lead driving lessons followed by a convoy of many cars with more than a few nervous pupils and their instructors.
