Cancelled Performance – No Ordinary Joe –
For all our followers who had read or seen publicity of a play “No Ordinary Joe – No Ordinary Kennedy” that was to be performed at the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum on Friday the 8th May 2020, we now have the news that this performance has been cancelled.
The Museum has received the following note from the producers.
Dear Friends,
Following the latest advice from Government about the necessary steps we should all take to protect ourselves and others from the Covid-19 virus, I regret to advise that the decision has been taken to cancel INK Festival 2020
Everyone who knows and loves INK will appreciate quite how difficult a decision this was to take. But, the Directors and Trustees felt that in the face of so many uncertainties on so many fronts, it was the right thing to do, however painful.
A huge amount of work by a great number of people has already gone into INK 2020, and we are determined to salvage and reward as much of this investment as possible. To that end, we intend to carry over all the plays in this year’s programme to our next festival. And then add yet more, to make next year’s INK even bigger and better!
We remain committed to our core ambition to nurture talent and encourage people from all walks of life, to write short plays for INK so we will have more plays, in more categories, and hopefully, additional venues
Much of this depends on the goodwill of our terrific INK family. We are so indebted to all of you: writers, actors, technicians, stage crew, directors, sponsors, poets, volunteers, artists, press, friends and administrators. We appreciate only too well that no one does this to get rich, but because you all share our passion.
If you have bought tickets, we will be in contact with you early next week to arrange refunds and to offer an opportunity to donate, in this extraordinary time, to the future of INK.
We look forward to an even better INK in 2021.
Most importantly keep healthy,
Julia Sowerbutts
Artistic Director
The INK Festival
The INK Festival had received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to tell the dramatic and tragic story of Joe Kennedy Jnr, the elder brother of John F Kennedy, who as a young man seemed destined to become President of the United States – until that is, the Second World War intervened.
The play, “No Ordinary Joe – No Ordinary Kennedy“, examines Joe Kennedy’s complex character and traces events which led Joe to volunteer for a top-secret and highly dangerous mission, in which he was required to fly a Liberator plane packed with explosives and bail out before it crossed the Channel. Tragically his plane exploded over Blythburgh, Suffolk killing both him and his co-pilot.
The play was to be performed at the following locations in East Anglia:
- The INK Festival, The Cut Halesworth – 17-19th April
- Halesworth Airfield Museum, Holton – Saturday 2nd May 2 pm and 5 pm
- Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum, Flixton – Friday 8th May 6 pm
- Parham Air Museum, – Saturday 9th May 4 pm and 7 pm
- St Andrews Church, Fersfield – Sunday 10th May 3 pm
