Painters Update – F100D

Painters update on the F-100D …

The paint team had a late start with the outside exhibits this year due to COVID-19 and have only managed to complete one airframe, however, it is probably the most colourful paint scheme of the aircraft we have on display at the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum.

The aircraft is painted in the colours of a North American F-100C Super Sabre flown by the United States Air Force Skyblazers display team for their 1960 to 62 seasons. The Skyblazers were a display team based in Germany in the 1950s and early 1960s and were disbanded after the introduction of the F-100D which had Air to Air refuelling capability allowing the Thunderbirds display team to fly from the United States.

This particular aircraft is an F-100D model and although painted in the Skyblazers F-100C colours the aircraft serial number is that of the original aircraft.

Found during the repaint under the port wing is the French Air Force roundel.  A history of this particular aircraft and how it arrived at Flixton was posted on the blog earlier in the year.
