10/02/2021 – Update from NASAM …
NASAM Still Closed (Temporarily)
Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus and the National Lockdown’s continued effects, the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum will continue to be closed for the foreseeable future. The site is being maintained on a care and maintenance basis with only security presence and maintenance checks taking place. Normal work will resume only when the situation eases. The Committee is keeping a close watch on the situation, meeting virtually and instructing the volunteers only to carry out essential maintenance on the site.
We suggest that readers keep an eye on the blog and our Social Media sites for updates and ongoing news. As soon as we have any updates, we will publish them to our readers. Alternatively, if you would like to be notified of new blog postings, you can have me mail you whenever a new blog is published. In This Edition of the NASAM Online Flier
Start of February 2021… The museum remains very quiet as the volunteers are respecting the National Lockdown and remaining at home. We will continue to publish the blog from time to time with information updates. However, we do have volunteers taking the opportunity to scan some archive photos, and a selection of these have been included in the gallery section. Some require information adding to them, so any odd snippets about the photos would be most welcome. As we continue to incur costs on utilities, insurance and maintenance we do appreciate the help given so far by people making small donations to the museum through the charities donation website, and also a few people who have joined the museum as distant members to make that small contribution. If, like others, you feel you are in a position to help us in this regard, details are at the foot of the blog on how you can do this.

Chairmans Update
Heritage Compass Programme
In 2020, Cause4 launched “Heritage Compass” – a brand-new Business Support Programme funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Working with consortium partners Creative United and the Arts Marketing Association this new programme has been designed to grow resilience and invigorate the heritage sector across England.
Over two years, Cause4 will be working with 150 small or medium heritage organisations from across the country. This new programme is designed to allow a wide range of heritage organisations to build their resilience through working together, as well as developing their individual strategies. Organisations will gain tailored training, mentoring and peer learning, developing strategy and moving forward as part of a dynamic new cohort of Heritage organisations.
The Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum joined this organisation, and two Volunteer Members have registered on the programme to develop our skills as trustees.
Good to Go
“We’re Good To Go” is the official UK mark to signal that a tourism and hospitality business has worked hard to follow Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines and has a process in place to maintain cleanliness and aid social distancing.
The Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum has applied for and been given authority to use the official mark signifying that we are indeed “Good to Go”. As soon as we are able to open again, we will be able to display the official mark and use this in any of our advertising.

Word Search Puzzle
Hidden below in the word search puzzle are the names of 38 of the NASAM aircraft. The names are given underneath the puzzle, and the names can be across, down, up, backwards and diagonal. The same letter can be used in multiple names. The spaces have been removed from the names.
The 38 aircraft names you are looking for are:
We will publish the solution in the next blog.

Photo Scanning
Four volunteers continue to take advantage of the lockdown to scan in the hundreds of photos that we have had donated to our archives section. The volunteers have taken away albums and photos and work on these at home. The information on the photos various from absolutely nothing to sketchy information on the front or the reverse, to detailed information on the reverse of the photo.
Two examples, of the information content, are shown below in the gallery section. Both are from an album entitled “Constellations”, which contains many photos of the Lockheed Constellation. The reverse of one contains the photographer’s name and address, the other quite a detailed history of the aircraft obviously researched at the time by the owner of the album. The volunteer scanning the photos sent me the following note to explain his slowness at getting through his albums. “I have been slower at scanning my batch of photos because I have been a bit nerdish and only spent a few days on it for various reasons. I have been lifting them from the page where possible and recording the information on the back, as it often does contain the copyright info but plenty more besides including dates! Some are blank, a few very detailed.” An example of the information from his spreadsheet is given alongside the two appropriate photos. I, for one, however, applaud his attention to detail and the fact that this information is being retained for future research and information.
Below, from a different volunteer are four photos from the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum in its infancy with captions written across the front of the photos.
Also from another volunteer are one of Mosquito aircraft hangar’ed in Volkel Holland and three black and white images with no caption. So, as in the last issue of the Online Flier, any information on these three un-captioned photos would be most welcome.
Winter Weather @ NASAM
Lastly, in the gallery below are five photos taken by Steve this morning (Wed 10th Feb) as he carried out the security and maintenance checks at the Museum. A bright clean start to the day.
