Spitfires over Flixton
Each year we submit applications to the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (RAF BBMF) requests for them to carry out flypasts at the Museum on the days when we have special events. This year is no exception, and we have now been notified that on three of those days, the RAF BBMF have allocated a Spitfire Flypast over the Museum.
The three days allocated so far are:
- The Scout Activities Day on Saturday, the 29th of April 2023 when we have a number of Scout organisations attending the Museum to carry out training and education towards their air activities badges. The Museum will be open to the public on this day as usual, from 1000 through to 1600. There will, however, be some restrictions on access to some areas of the Museum for the general public throughout the day as the Scouts move from one activity to another. We will keep these restrictions to a minimum to ensure that the public can access to as many areas as possible including cockpits at some point during the day.
- The East Coast Pirates Day on Sunday, the 7th of May 2023 when we have Great Yarmouth’s largest car club attending the Museum. The East Coast Pirates will be bringing large numbers of classic cars, including hot rods, American muscle cars, tricycles and more. This will be the club’s 12th showing at the Museum, and is extremely popular with the club members and the general public alike. There will be plenty of machinery on show, not to mention our own aircraft and exhibit. The Museum will be open as usual from 1000 through to 1600
- The Aviation Art and Model Day on Sunday the 21st of May 2023 when we will have numerous model aircraft on show and lots of aviation art from the Museum archives to see.
Note please that the flypasts are very much subject to weather conditions on the day and operational commitments by the RAF BBMF. Timings of the flypasts will only be notified on the day.
Upcoming Events
We can’t offer you flypasts for the first two events in April at the Museum, however, we can say that these are great days out for families, with lots to see and do. With free parking and free entry, these are inexpensive days out. We welcome dogs (apart from in the shop), provided they are kept on a lead.
The NAAFI cafe will serve hot and cold drinks, with snacks and cakes. The shop will be open for ice creams, and with picnic tables and seating throughout the museum, there are plenty of spaces to relax and take in the activities.
