Road Closure – Access to Museum

Suffolk County Council have notified us that the museum will be affected by road closures on the B1062. The B1062 is the main road that runs from Bungay and joins the A 143 at Wortwell. This is the only road that serves the museum!

This road will be closed starting on Monday, the 14th of April, until Friday, the 2nd of May 2025. The road will, however, be open normally over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend – Friday, and on the Museum open days of Saturday, Sunday and the Bank Holiday Monday, the 19th to the 21st April 2025.

This means access to the museum outside of the Bank Holiday weekend and during the closure period will only be from Bungay (North) using the B1062, as this will be the only way to approach the museum for the duration of the roadworks. Reaching the museum from the A143 onto the B1062 at Wortwell (South) will not be possible as the road will be closed at the Buck Inn.

Dates to follow the diversion are:

Wednesday the 16th April 2025
Wednesday the 23rd April 2025
Saturday the 26th April 2025
Sunday the 27th April 2025

When the road is closed, anyone travelling from the A140, Norwich, Stowmarket, Harleston, Diss, Ipswich, Felixstowe will need to follow the diversion as follows:

At the junction to Wortwell do not turn right from the A143 onto the B1062. Instead, continue on the A143 until you reach the first roundabout that the Clays Printworks is on. From here you need to turn right into Bungay onto the A144 signposted Bungay / Halesworth. This will take you into the town of Bungay. Follow the road through Bungay keeping to the left of the H Wightman & Sons Store. Having passed the church on your left-hand side, keep right at the next opportunity and then at the “T” junction turn left and continue to follow the signs for Halesworth A144 (A12). You will then need to turn right onto the B1062 signposted Homersfield B1062, which is just past the Bungay Community Centre. You will also see the brown Aviation Museum sign.
