Summary of Contents
A shortish blog this week, however, in this edition of the “Museum News“, we have some photos from Steve B of visitors over the Easter weekend. From the teams “Inside and Outside – The Museum“, we have a painter’s update from Mark K this week. Finally, under the “Events Information“; we have a list of events booked so far for the rest of the summer. This includes a new notification of a flypast by the RAF BBMF with a pair of Hurricanes in June.

Visitors to the Museum
We had a number of interesting visitors over the Easter weekend. Firstly, four motorcyclists on a practice run before heading to the Arctic Circle later on in the year. Then, a group of 20 vintage cyclists, or should that be 20 cyclists riding vintage machines, who called into the Museum on Easter Sunday.

Painters Update
22/04/25 – J.R.R. Tolkien visits Flixton!
With Barry spoiling a good walk (a.k.a. playing golf) the rest of the team were determined to make the most of yet another day of good weather.
Gwen headed for the front field to repair some of the flaky paint on the Whirlwind.
Unfortunately, Mark didn’t take any pic’s of Gwen in action because he, Cliff and Ian were caught up in an epic remake of Tolkien’s The Two Towers. Yes, there were Elves, Hobbits and Orcs building two scaffold towers against the Valetta so Tony (with his white hair and white beard) can magically repair any water leaks as part of the larger Valetta Cockpit project – water shall not pass! See pic’s 1, 2 and 3.
After that excitement and a well-earned cup of tea, Ian and Mark moved on to pressure washing the roof lights on the Link Trainer corridor – see pic 4, whilst Cliff arranged for the disposal of some of the junk that has accumulated behind the restoration workshop.
Later in the day, Bomber Command was the last place to feel the pressure of washing for this year, Mark and Ian giving it a good blast – see pic 5, with Cliff kindly clearing up the trail of hosepipes and ladders that the two had left behind.
The pressure washers do push some water under the overlapping roof sheets, so some mopping-up was required inside Bomber Command, but that coincided with Cliff adding a new exhibit: two Small Bomb Containers he’d found tucked away in one of the workshops. See pic 6, which shows an ‘in period’ example of said bomb containers, although that’s definitely not a picture of Mark and Cliff (but could be Private Walker maybe, the one with the jaunty cap)!

The Repeat Information
Funding
Here we are in 2025, and although we now charge for admission to the Museum, we still appreciate any additional help we can get from the general public, readers of the blog and visitors to the Museum. So the repeated information below is still here, just in case you would like to help.
We are a charitable organisation, relying now on admission charges, grants and donations from the people that visit. Any and all help is greatly appreciated and enables the Museum to continue in our mission “To conserve, preserve, and promote the history of aviation in East Anglia, whilst providing a fun, family-friendly and interactive museum, promoting education and remembrance of the events of the past”.
Would you like to help??
One of the ways we save money is by having a dedicated group of Volunteers that keep the Museum and the exhibits both manned and maintained. We hope, therefore, that a few people would consider helping in the three ways below:
Help by becoming a Museum Member, also Volunteering to help at the Museum, or by making a Donation to help with our running costs. Please click on the appropriate button below to access the appropriate information.
