Big Brick Weekend @NASAM

Big Brick Weekend @ NASAM

We like to run special event days at the Museum and this appeals to lots of different clubs who usually bring along their classic vehicles or bikes and spend a day with us.  The 14th and 15th of June, however, provided a different group of enthusiasts, model brick builders.  The modellers took over various parts of the Museum for two days and set up displays in the hangars for visitors to enjoy.  And enjoy the displays they did, as we saw lots of satisfied young and young-at-heart modellers wandering the museum on both days.  Also visiting, as it transpired, was a pilot of our Phantom (see photo below the video), and Steve explains this in his note. below.

Thanks go to Steve and Joe for the various photos and videos, which have been combined into a single video that can also be found on our YouTube Channel.

The Big Brick Weekend

The weekend of the 14th and 15th of June 2025 saw several model brick enthusiasts at the museum. There were over a dozen displays of very varied topics, from haunted houses to Star Wars and Avro Lancasters to Avro Vulcans. The displays proved a great attraction to visitors, with lots of people looking around the displays dispersed throughout the hangars.

One of those visitors was John (Jimmy) Greaves who flew our Phantom whilst she was based at Port Stanley in The Falklands. He was delighted to be reunited with his old steed especially as he hadn’t known he was visiting until a friend mentioned the museum over lunch.

Sadly missed were the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. They were grounded by high crosswinds at RAF Coningsby this morning. At around 12:15, we did get a flypast by three Texans of No 72 Squadron at RAF Valley who were on their way to the North Sea to form up for the King’s Birthday Flypast. Unfortunately, we didn’t hear them coming, so no photos.
