Flight Simulator Instructors Wanted
At the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum, we are looking to enhance the experience offerings we give to visitors and expand on the times we are open for these additional experiences. The area we wish to expand next is the Link Room / Flight Simulator area. To do this, we need additional volunteers to be available for the computer-based simulators and also the historic Link Trainers.

Role description for Volunteer Flight Simulator Instructor
Primary role
The primary role of the Volunteer is to enhance the visitor experience by allowing visitors to take part in a flight in one of the Computer-Based Flight Simulators.
Secondary roles
The secondary role of all volunteers is to engage with visitors to enhance their experience whilst visiting the museum. This could include offering access to aircraft (with agreement from Curator or Trustees), and/or explanation of the various guns available for visitors to handle. The secondary role whilst volunteering in this Link Room area is to Boot up, and close down, the computers that are used for Flight Simulation and other displays etc.
Under certain circumstances, the Link Trainers may also be operated, provided two trained operators are available.

Skills and knowledge possessed
The applicant should be computer literate, however training in the precise areas to be presented will be available. The volunteer should also be able to understand some areas of the museum in order to be able to explain these to the visitors when they ask questions.
Training available
Existing staff will be available to train the volunteer in the use of the different flight simulators available, and to explain a typical profile flown that allows the visitor to experience a reasonable flight, without that flight being open-ended.
Existing staff can also train in the handling of the guns and also to use of the Link Trainers. Information about the aircraft that can be opened is also available together with guidelines on making access available is available to volunteers.

The volunteer is expected to:
- liaise with the museum’s volunteer coordinator to determine availability
- maintain a good relationship with the museum keeper/curator
- work closely with other volunteer teams working at the museum
- maintain a good relationship with the visitors
