Update to Hurricane P3708

Last weekend saw the arrival at the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum of a large lump of Hurricane: a complete ‘centre section’ rebuilt off-site for Hurricane P3708.

Most of P3708’s original centre section did not survive its impact with the ground in August 1940 and so much of the structure has been rebuilt with parts from a variety of other Hurricanes, most with no known identity. However, significant parts are from the original P3708 wreckage.

If it was possible to re-shape such parts, both physically and financially, then that has been done. It is skilled and expensive work but necessary to retain as much originality in the display as possible. An example of just one of the joints repaired and reused is shown in the attached photos below.
