Scout Air Activities Day @ NASAM

Scout Air Activities Day at the Museum

On Saturday 29th September 2018, around 50 Beavers and Cubs plus their leaders travelled to Flixton to work towards their Aviation Activities badges. 12 Beavers from 1st Carlton Colville were working on their Stage 1 badge whilst 40 Cubs from 1st Kesgrave worked on Stage 3.

The Youngsters learned about how helicopters differ from aeroplanes, how to find out about the weather and how it affects flying, what sort of items appear on flying charts and different parts of an aeroplane. They also had a chance to try their hand at either a 1940s Link Trainer or a more modern computer-based Flight Simulator. Some of them tried on a parachute for size (it was way too large!). All of them built a flying model from a polystyrene plate, some also constructed a Stomp Rocket.

At the end of a packed day, they all agreed that they had enjoyed their day in the museum.
